Composite door repairs… fix, don’t replace your door
Stephen Fretwell provides expert composite door repairs across the Isle of Axholme and surrounding areas for both homeowners and businesses. With over 25 years of locksmith experience, I diagnose and repair composite door problems quickly and professionally, without unnecessary replacements.
From failed locking mechanisms and stiff handles to alignment issues and security upgrades, I have the tools, parts, and experience needed to restore your composite door to smooth, secure operation.
I understand the common problems with composite doors
1. My composite door will not open
Composite doors are secured using a multipoint locking system that runs the full length of the door. Over time, these mechanisms can fail due to general wear and tear or excessive pressure on the handle during locking and unlocking.
If the handle pushes down but the door will not release or open, there is a strong chance the multipoint locking mechanism has failed.
Using specialist locksmith tools and non-destructive entry techniques, I can open the door without damaging the frame or door panel. I will then replace the failed mechanism with a quality, genuine, or like-for-like replacement part, fully service the door, and restore smooth, secure operation.
2. My composite door will not lock
A composite door that will not lock properly is another very common issue I repair across the Isle of Axholme. In most cases, the problem will be either:
A failed multipoint locking mechanism
The door is moving out of alignment over time
A simple test is to try operating the lock while the door is open. If the handle lifts and locks correctly in the open position, the issue is likely due to alignment. If the mechanism still refuses to engage, the gearbox or locking system has probably failed.
Once I have diagnosed the fault, I can either realign and adjust the door correctly or replace the failed locking mechanism using quality replacement parts carried in my fully equipped mobile workshop.
After the repair, I will fully service the door to ensure smooth locking and long-term reliability.
3. The door key will not turn in my composite door lock
Many modern composite doors are fitted with high-security euro cylinder locks. While these provide excellent protection against burglary, they can sometimes become stiff, worn, or fail internally over time. If the key becomes difficult to turn, will not fully insert, or refuses to operate the lock, specialist locksmith tools and experience are usually required to avoid causing further damage.
I can safely remove failed door cylinder locks and replace them with upgraded high-security anti-snap locks to restore both security and smooth operation.
4. Draughts around the composite door
If you can feel cold air coming through your composite door or see daylight around the frame, the door has likely dropped or become misaligned over time. Most composite door hinges are fully adjustable, but this is where many homeowners accidentally make the problem worse.
What looks like a simple adjustment can quickly lead to the door catching, becoming difficult to lock, or placing excessive strain on the locking mechanism.
Composite door alignment is something I deal with every week using the correct tools and experience. I will correctly realign the door, reduce draughts, restore smooth locking, and help prevent unnecessary wear on the mechanism… all while keeping your existing door secure and working properly.
5. Broken composite door handles
If the handle has snapped, become loose, or come completely off the door, I can usually replace it quickly and easily using quality, long-lasting replacement handles. If the handle spins freely or feels loose internally, the problem is often a failed gearbox or locking mechanism rather than the handle itself.
I stock quality replacement handles in chrome, white, and gold finishes to suit most composite doors.
I also fit the premium Brisant Sweet security handles, featuring a unique anti-grip curved design that helps resist attack from burglary tools while giving the door a more modern, high-end finish.
